Evolution Korea

Until recently, Korea's scientific community has avoided engaging with creationists, afraid that it could give the movement more credibility. However, silence is no anymore an option.

The STR has been fighting to remove evolution-related content from textbooks, including the discovery that the feathered Archaeopteryx was an ancestor bird. But this is merely one aspect of the evolution of the developmental paradigm.

What is Evolution?

The theory of evolution is a branch of science that explains the evolution of genetic traits over time. The theory is based on the fact that living things adapt to their environments and this can lead to changes in genes or even whole genomes. These changes could over generations result in the development of new species. The prevailing theory of evolution is called natural selection, which describes the process through which those with favorable characteristics live and reproduce more frequently than those with disadvantages. This differential reproduction can eventually lead to the creation and evolution of new species.

The word "evolution" is derived from the Latin word meaning unraveling or revealing, however the concept has had a variety of meanings since it took form in the fields of science and other fields. Some early evolutionists, like Jean Baptiste de Lamarck and Erasmus Darwin (Charles's grandfather) believed that existing species evolved into new species in a predetermined fashion. Etienne Geoffroy St-Hilaire, Lamarck's embryologist student who invented the term "transmutation" to describe this view. Charles Lyell, in his Principles of Geology, published in 1833, attacked the idea of evolution, and borrowed the term from Geoffroy’s student.

More recently, evolutionary biologists have defined evolution as a process when living creatures develop characteristics that improve their chances of survival, or their ability to produce offspring. As time passes, genetic variation can cause a population to acquire new physical characteristics or biological functions. Natural selection is the mechanism that triggers most evolutionary changes. Other changes that aren't genetic, such as an increase in muscle mass due to exercise or diet, cannot be considered to be evolutionary because they aren't passed on to future generations.

Creationists have a tendency to use the argument that evolution is controversial, in spite of the fact that it has been proven accurate by thousands of scientific tests and it has been tested over time. They argue that the theory shouldn't be taught in schools. In South Korea, creationists won a few victories over evolution in high school textbooks. This includes the removal of references to the evolutionary roots of humans as well as Archaeopteryx which is a feathered dinosaur which is believed to be the bird's ancestor.

Why is Evolution Important?

Evolution explains how the Earth and all its living species evolved. It is also one of the foundations of biology and helps scientists understand how living things work and develop. Evolution also demonstrates how different species are connected. Scientists study evolution in order to better comprehend nature and make valuable discoveries like new treatments.

The evidence for biological evolution is overwhelming. There is no other scientific theory that explains so many aspects of the universe and life on Earth, and it has been thoroughly tested and confirmed over a long period of time. Many people, even some religious leaders, are in support of the scientific theory. It is important to understand that evolutionary biology doesn't interfere with religions, since the theory deals only with objects, events and processes within the physical world.

In  에볼루션 바카라 무료 , many religious people have found ways to reconcile their beliefs with evolution. Certain Christians for instance believe that God created everything through evolution and that humans have an ancestry that is shared with other animals.

It is crucial for scientists to stand up for the teaching of evolution. Unfortunately, in some nations around the world there is a growing anti-evolutionist sentiment. In the United States some states have taken steps to limit teaching of evolution. In South Korea, a group known as the Society for Textbook Revise (STR), an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research is urging the elimination of textbook content about the evolution of horses and the avian ancestral Archaeopteryx.

While these are troubling changes, it's important to remember that the evidence for evolution is overwhelming. The evidence for evolution is based on a variety of sources, including fossils, genetics, and the behavior of living creatures. Other scientists independently verify the evidence.

The vast majority of scientists believe in the theory of evolution. This belief is based on many different reasons. Scientists study evolution to discover practical solutions, such as developing medicines, while others are motivated by the desire to improve the lives of animals and plant species, usually to benefit humans. Some are simply curious, and others have a profound religious belief in God and seek to understand how the universe works.

What is Creationism?

Creationists believe that God created all things in the universe. They also believe that the Bible is God's word and should be taken literally. Many creationists are Christians however, not all. Creationists are generally divided into two categories: Young Earth Creationists (YEC) or old earth creationists.

The YECs are the best known type of creationist, and they believe that God created the world exactly as described in the Bible. They believe that the biblical account of the creation's six days is literal and that the universe and the life on Earth began only recently.

OECs aren't as well-known however their beliefs are just as passionate like those of YECs. OECs believe the universe and Earth are billions-of-years old and believe that evolution is a myth.

Both types of creationism reject the idea that scientific principles like biogenesis and natural selection can explain how life started on Earth. They assert that evolution is impossible, because it requires miracles. The founders of modern science shunned miracles in fear that they might lose their credibility.

Some creationists accept naturalistic evolution and special creation and refer to their belief as "theistic evolution." This is also known as "continuous evolutionism" or the "evolution of species created." The theory says that God creates species from scratch and then allows these to evolve over time. These evolutionary changes eventually will result in new species similar to the original.

Others believe that God created the universe and all living things in a single event, referred to as the Great Flood. Creationists believe that all species were created at the same moment and then gradually evolved. They also deny the notion of abiogenesis and argue that the creation of self-replicating organisms from nonliving matter is impossible.

In general, creationists oppose teaching evolution at schools. This is supported by numerous professional organizations which include the National Science Teachers Association, the Association for Science Teacher Education as well as the American Anthropological Association, and the Geological Society of America. Some scientists and educational institutions, however, are more flexible and allow both evolution and creationism to be included in their curriculum.

What is Creationism?

When people think of the concept of creationism, a lot think of the United States. South Korea also has an anti-evolutionist group. The publishers of high school textbooks have recently declared that they will be removing references to evolution from their textbooks. The Society for Textbook Revise, an independent body that is an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research (KACCR) is the one who has led this effort. The STR has scored its first victory by removing from textbooks the evidence of the evolution and ancestor of the bird, the Archeopteryx. The next step is to take out excerpts from Darwin’s infamous finch-research and also on human evolution.

STR claims to have the support of around 4000 families and individuals. Its goal, it says is to clear the world of what it calls "atheist materialism" which paints a negative view for students. It also seeks to counter the influence of American Creationists across the country. A survey of the newest biology teachers revealed that a majority do not believe in the concept of evolution. The root causes are unclear however, they could be related to religion and the absence of full-time creation scientists across the country.

The KACR has achieved a lot through its seminars and lectures in the past. It has a bimonthly news magazine, Creation, and has published books. One of them was a textbook on natural sciences with a creationist stance. It sparked interest in college communities. In 1991, a professor and minister began teaching Creation Science in one university and it is taught to this day.

On August 6 and 7 in 1993, the same day that the World Expo opened in Daejeon, KACR held a second International Symposium on Creation Research. Six lecturers from around the world including ICR's John Morris, Duane Gish, and Steven Austin spoke to audiences of over a thousand. KACR and its members have been giving talks on creation science at major seminaries, too. KACR plans to create a Creation Science Education Center in the future.
